Jellyfish Sting Protection

Have you ever been in the water and all of a sudden you get stung by a jellyfish and you are unsure of what to do next? Here are some tips and tricks to help remove the tentacles and reduce pain!

Things you can do to help heal quicker:

  • Rinse with sea water not regular water to remove any large tentacles.
  • Cautiously use something fine like tweezer to remove any visible tentacles.
  • Rinse with vinegar if available.
  • Apply some hydrocortisone cream if available.
  • If it is a Chesapeake Bay sting DO NOT use vinegar, use a baking soda rinse instead.

If the sting seems extreme or is difficult for you to work with on your own do not hesitate to seek medical treatment from your nearest hospital, especially if you are feeling any of these symptoms:

  • Slurred Speech
  • Too weak to stand or function on their own
  • Confused state or unaware of their surroundings
  • Tightness in throat or difficulty breathing
  • Excessive sweating
